Oceanlinx gets the wave
Monday, 13 July 2009

WAVE energy producer Oceanlinx has raised $10million in new funding that it will use to help fund the rollout of the latest version of its wave energy converters.

Details of the funding were not released but came from existing shareholders, which include Australian fund Cleantech Ventures, Swiss-based Emerald Technology ventures and Portuguese venture capital firms ES Tech ventures and Foment Invest. "In the current market, it shows a significant level of confidence," chief executive Ali Baghaei says.

Of particular interest to local wave energy producers such as Oceanlinx was the awarding last week of renewable energy certificates to Marine Current Turbines, the developer of a 1.2-megawatt tidal device in Northern Ireland, the first time such certificates had been accredited to a marine energy project in Britain.

All Australia's marine energy hopefuls are keeping a weather eye on Britain, and markets in Ireland, Spain and Portugal, where attractive incentives are being put in place to encourage the development of wave and tidal energy technology.
